Thank you for this. I am in KS so this is for temporary 3 month keeping of an ornate box turtle that got hit on the highway. The top shell broke all the way across. My son and I washed him up, put on triple antibiotic, then the next morning a vet epoxied and wired his shell. The vet left us with antibiotic to give him. After 4 weeks this turtle is finally coming into his own and playing around his terrarium as he was pretty shy and unsure/ healing at first. He will get let go in the exact area we found him at the end of the summer before hibernation.

In general I think they are not very aggressive at all but out of 10 I’ve caught only one was aggressive

You should NOT be using sand. And do NOT attempt breeding. It's very risky & delicate.

Ok turtle folks I have a question. Our dogs found a box turtle. Our first impulse was to release it in wooded area near by. We noticed she seemed to be very comfortable being handled. She even let you touch her head. No fear of humans. Our concern was she was an escaped pet. A google search said a domesticated turtle should not be released. This video says it's cruel to keep wild born turtle. How can I know what's best for turtle?

About 40 years ago I was going to high school after Thanksgiving break. Here in the Mid-Atlantic it was just below freezing and a freezing drizzle was coming down. As I started my car at about 6:45 am I saw a lump in the middle of the street. I stopped to look at this little lump. It was a sweet little box turtle, probably fully grown. It wasn't moving, it was tucked in its shell. I wasn't entirely certain it was alive at first. I picked him (no idea if this is accurate) up and took him into the house. We placed him in a milk crate in a cold area of the house. He stayed with us until the weather broke. I would set him outside in his crate during the day and bring him in at night. It would get down near freezing at night and as warm as 50sF in the day. One day in late April, the crate was over on its side and he was gone. I hope he lived a long turtle life after that.

Nope, definitely both green. See how the "brown" anole is one solid shade of brown and also has a long narrow head like the green anole? They are both green anoles, one of them just turned their scales brown. (Yes, they can do that)
